SyncBird is intended for creating backups of the data on your Apple portable devices, including music, photographs, movies, books and ringtones. In this regard, there is a clear intention by its developers to avoid some of the limitations found in iTunes. For instance, it can transfer files between your iPhone and your iPod without limits. Moreover, it supports adding new media by dragging and dropping the files from multiple iTunes libraries, even if they are stored on different machines.
In terms of interface design, SyncBird seems much simpler. It looks very nice, and even its backgrounds can be set to change automatically, so that you do not get bored of looking at the same image all the time. There is a switcher on the top right corner, which lets you change from Sync mode to Clean mode, and vice versa. Most of the operations are done from the left sidebar, which also lets you filter contents by their types, such as music, movies, home videos, tv shows, podcasts, audiobooks and books. Unfortunately, the online guide is poor and with some evident language mistakes.
In Sync mode, you just need to connect a device and start dragging and dropping contents. It is good that the application can automatically convert video to Mac compatible formats, such as M4V, MP4 and MOV, and even 4K definition is supported. In Clean mode, the tool scans the iTune library to find and clean iTunes’ leftovers and iOS junks, which contributes to recovering valuable storage space.
All in all, SyncBird appears to be an alternative to iTunes that is worth considering. The product is available for free but there is also a Pro license that comes with a cost. You should probably consider their advantages and decide which one is best for you.
- Transfers unlimited amounts of data
