Home Inventory is a Mac utility that comes in handy if you plan on moving to a new house or make a report of your belongings for planning inheritance.
This program comes with a user-friendly interface and a built-in help manual, so you won't have any trouble handling this utility on your Mac. You can create as many inventories as you like, feature which comes in handy if you own multiple houses or wish to build separate catalogs for different types of items (only furniture, electronics, etc.).
Once your inventory is complete, you can export the stored information or print item details directly from the app's interface. Disappointingly, the program supports only one output format when exporting item info (CSV). There's no default Mac app that can open this type of files. It would be great if the developers offered support for popular formats, like PDF or HTML.
Still, this program provides you with multiple inventorying options, works with many image formats, and is very intuitive. Hence, you should give Home Inventory a try if you ever need to catalog your goods.
Pros
- Lets you create lists for inheritance details
- Brings you a comprehensive help guide
- Allows you to store warranty information
- You can back up the stored info to your Dropbox account
Cons
- Supports only one output format (CSV) when exporting item info
If you have ever lost anything in your home, you can use this app to find it.
If you are going to move to a new house and are going to sell all the stuff, the application may facilitate the process, providing a complete list of things in your home. You can specify the cost and the condition of each thing. But I can't think of any other occasion to use this program at home. It is not an everyday application for sure.
