Dupe Away can be used to clean your iTunes library from duplicates. The app has been designed to scan your library and your playlists and find duplicate files or references to tracks that don't exist.

Duplicates, or dupes, are files that are identical but are added twice or more times to the same list (in this case, your library).

Dupe Away welcomes you with a nice guide that tells you how the app operates and explains the main concepts that you need to know about. After that, it will display all the songs on your iTunes library or your playlists (depending on the mode that you select from the top-left part of the screen). The next step, as I could understand, is to click on "Find & Group Dupes", which should highlight duplicates and dead references, making it easier for you to delete them. In my case, the app didn't find anything. I found this surprising since I intentionally duplicated a song myself and even added the word "DUPE" to it. I then removed that word and the app found them. So basically, songs have to have exactly the same name for the app to find them, and in my experience that rarely happens.

Pros

  • It works

Cons

  • seemingly only if the songs have an identical name
