iTunes is a well-known application developed by Apple and it is used for playing, purchasing and downloading multimedia files from the Internet. It comes with a modern look and an easy-to-use menu that will grant Mac users quick access to all of the features and products. It provides support for most multimedia files, from videos to music tracks, radio stations, and does all that using neat sorted categories for each type.
iTunes also offers support for both manual and automatic downloads for Macs, PCs, iPhones and iPads. It provides the tools for buying or renting movies, blockbusters or TV episodes. This feature-rich application is cheap on resource consumption, so Mac users can run multiple applications at the same time. It has a nice GUI and a well-sorted menu that will make it easy for the users to find the right multimedia content. It basically combines browsing tools with a powerful multimedia player in order to fit best for the user's needs. It allows library sharing, but it isn't accessible for general public, but only for third-party licensees.
All in all, you should try iTunes; it is free, well organized, it has an appealing interface and it integrates browsing, downloading, purchasing and playing multimedia files into a single powerful application.

Yet at the same time iTunes only has very limited support for the types of Music/Video files it will play.
It really is a pain having to transcode Music/Video files so they can be played in iTunes.
