IP Scanner 2.7 beta

IP Scanner is a free utility to identify devices on your local network.

  DOWNLOAD

IP Scanner is a free utility that scans your local network to identify all of the machines and devices on your local network.

Full version may show unlimited number of devices, while free version identifies up to only 6. The program allows you to customize the results, so the device can be easily identified in the future.

During its first start-up, the program checks to see if there are any updates available. When it is done, you may hit "Start" to scan for available devices on your network. My results included 4 devices, including two for my virtual machine that I am using to test programs. You have an ability to click on any one of your results, and assign it a name, and define its category, such as Apple, Windows, Router, Printer and so on. I am sure you will never get confused ever again.

The tool is helpful to see what's up with your network. It is handy to figure out an IP of this or that device. There is no need to print out config page to setup a networked printer or figure out what mask does your router using.

One of the best features is that you can tell the program to scan a particular range of IPs rather than the whole set. The results also include MAC addresses, which is very convenient.

The utility is quite simple and was tested on a simple local network. I did not try to test it on any advanced network. I wonder if it would be any useful.
