Info updated on:

Growly Checkbook is a Mac utility that enables you to keep track of your daily transactions. By using this type of programs, you can get a better view of your spending habits and find ways to save money without making unnecessary or non-urgent purchases.

You can manage two types of transaction databases: Checking and Savings. In the first database, you can add transaction information about payments and deposits. All data is being stored in a table, with separate columns for every type of detail regarding your transaction. For example, you can attach a check number or a memo to a transaction item. The same thing goes for the Savings database.

A great thing is that the program automatically calculates your balance as soon as you add a new transaction item. In addition, you can export the stored info to your local directories or print it directly from the tool's interface. Unfortunately, the list of supported output formats is quite limited. You can save your records only as GBcheckbook (compatible only with Growly Checkbook) or TXT files.

The utility is also missing the ability to sort transactions into groups (Home, Travel, etc.) and the option to import finance details.

All in all, Growly Checkbook might come in handy when calculating finances and keeping track of your savings and expenses. Even though it doesn't bring much to the table compared to its competitors, the program is free of charge and works 100%. I'd say it's worth giving it a shot.

Can the data be sorted?
I would like to use this as a very basic planning tool. I would like to be able to sort by date and be able to sub by month. I am currently using iBank which is over 10 years old. And it works exactly as I need, but 10 years old could be a problem. I need a new software that is current and where I can contact when I need help.
