Gawker is an application that lets you record time lapse clips. A time lapse is basically a video which shows what has happened in an extended period of time in a reduced clip. For example, there are time lapses of a construction crew erecting a building from scratch until it is finished, and the videos are probably only a few minutes long, when the project could probably take weeks to finish. Gawker lets you do this on your Mac, using either the built-in iSight camera or another USB web camera. In my case, Gawker detected both the iSight and a web camera.

When you start the application, you will see a list of connected devices. When you select one of those devices, you will start seeing your webcam's feed. Before starting a recording, you have to specify the quality of the recording, where you want to save it and how many frames you want to capture. By default, the app captures one frame every 30 frames. And this might not be the best setting for capturing something that isn't moving smoothly and slowly. For example, on the website there is an example of a time-lapse of two or three snails moving on someone's yard. 30 frames is a good setting for that, but if you wanted to create a time-lapse of yourself writing this review, then 30 frames would not really work, especially when you are moving like crazy like a certain person I know is.

All in all, this app is a great tool for creating time lapses. It can also be used for surveillance purposes, but that is not its intended use. One great thing about this app is that you can combine up to 4 images in the same video.
