Desktop Curtain allows you to tidy up your desktop space. The application puts a background on top of your desktop clutter to hide it from your screen. It can also be configured to cover running applications as well. Although they are hidden, icons and apps won't be closed or deleted. There are two versions of this app. The free one: Desktop Curtain Classic and Desktop Curtain. I will be talking about the free version.
By default, the application hides your desktop icons on your primary screen. But from the application's main window you can change the behavior of the app. You can change the Curtain Level, which establishes what the curtain covers, the affected screens (primary, secondary, all) and the affected spaces (in case you use more than one Space on your Mac).
Desktop Curtain Classic worked perfectly for me out of the box. It was very quick in applying the curtain and making changes to the configuration.
If you are looking for a solution that does what Desktop Curtain Classic does, I would highly recommend that you try the App Store version of this app. It has incredible features, such as hotkey support, history, it runs as a dock icon and it is actively and constantly being improved. It looks like the free version will not get any more updates.
