Colorful Folders is intended to customize your folders’ appearance. In this respect, the tool cannot only change their standard color to a new one but also beautify them with clipart. Although the application is not that hard to use, it is a shame that all the help you can get is that provided in the developer’s description. So, it is likely that you find yourself wondering what to do next or missing a handy feature.
In order to customize a folder, you just need to drag the desired folder from Finder and drop it onto the application’s window. Regrettably, unlike other similar tools, this one does not support customizing folders directly from Finder’s contextual menu.
Colorful Folders has a tabbed interface, which provide different ways to personalize folders. In this regard, the simplest way is to go to the Color Tab to change their color. There you can either use the Random Folder option and let the program pick a color for you, or choose one of the colors listed. Unfortunately, there is little color variety. Next, there is the Custom Tab, which lets you select a design from a series of templates. Again, there is also a Random Folder option to save you from deciding yourself. Once more, the built-in clipart choices may feel too limited. Finally, if you want more freedom, it is possible to switch to the Designer Tab. This time, you are allowed to drag and drop images from Finder, together with other options, like custom positioning, transparency level, shadow and layout. more
