Max NTFS is a small tool that can open NTFS format disks in read-write mode. Once you start the application, it will automatically detect all the hard disks, and you can start reading and writing to NTFS format disks with one key operation on the main interface.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS PROGRAM!

I downloaded an absolutely HORRIBLE program from the Apple App Store called "Max NTFS." This program was preventing Disk Utility from checking my (OS-X formatted) RAID drive. It was also refusing to let the RAID drive eject (even after shutting down the program itself).

I downloaded the Max NTFS program from the App Store today and installed it.

I got the message that to have R/W access on a NTFS-formatted drive, I'd need to download and install "MaxNTFS helper" (from their website). I did.

I then got the message that to have "full" R/W access to the NTFS formatted drive, I'd need to purchase & install their $12.99 upgrade (from their website). I did.

I then got the message that I needed to go to System Preferences and allow "Full Disk Access" for all of their products. I did.

Upon trying to access a NTFS drive, I got the message that I needed to "Activate" and reboot. I did (multiple times).

I never was able to read or write the NTFS disk, despite the fact that Apple Finder could see the contents.

I shut down Max NTFS, but still couldn't eject my RAID. By watching Activity Monitor, I saw that Max NTFS was still churning away in the background - preventing me from ejecting my (Mac-OS formatted) external RAID drive.

I finally managed to delete all the Max NTFS items from my HDD (NOT a simple chore) and I also posted a one-star review of the software on the App Store and gave Apple a "Scam Alert" on the company.

So I wasted an entire Sunday afternoon fighting a totally non-functional software program that I'd downloaded from Apple's own App Store. Since the $12.99 version isn't paid for through the App Store, I can't request a refund. This is a scam.

Once I deleted ALL of Max NTFS and its byproduct programs, Disk Utility successfully checked my RAID and reported it fine.

Why the App Store even carries such trash, I don't know. The program even has a reasonable feedback score. I followed the program instructions to the letter, and it not only did Max NTFS fail to do what it claimed, but also the program prevented proper function of other discs that should have no connection to Max NTFS at all.

CAVEAT EMPTOR (Let the buyer beware!)
