ChatMate for WhatsApp gets your attention immediately when a friend sends you a new message. You can get notifications in the MenuBar, on the Desktop and in the Dock. Which ones you choose or disable is up to you. Further, for privacy reasons, it is possible to disable the message preview or even the sender name and image in the Desktop notifications.
