Time Out is a utility that comes in handy to people who often forget to take breaks from their work.

It helps you define normal (usually 10 minutes at every hour) and micro (15 seconds at every 15 minutes) break profiles and displays notifications when it's time to get away from your Mac and relax your eyes.

The program comes with a wide range of useful features and configurations. For example, you can configure the application to skip breaks when a certain program is open or frontmost. It's also capable of monitoring how much time you spend working with certain Mac programs.

Another great thing about this utility is that it lets you define global hotkeys for immediately starting, skipping or postponing breaks.

The only aspect that bothers me is the fact that the program doesn't let you set more than 2 break profiles. You need to make a payment (they call it a donation) in order to get rid of this limitation. The price is reasonable, though.

All in all, Time Out is one of the best apps I tried on my Mac for reminding me when it's time for a break from work and monitoring how much time I spent working with my programs.

Pros

  • Lets you define various global hotkeys
  • Helps you monitor how much time you spend working with certain apps
  • It can skip breaks when you're using certain apps

Cons

  • You need to pay to add extra break profiles
