Softtote File Recovery for Mac is a complete data recovery solution. It can be used to recover files that have been deleted or lost.

This app can scan your hard drives or mounted volumes. You can choose beforehand what file types you want to scan for to make the process faster but this isn't a requirement. In other words, you can search for any file type if you want.

To make things easier for you, when you first launch the application, you are given three scanning options. You can either scan for files, photos or office documents. The three different options work the same, and you can set filters before starting a scan.

After you have set the filtering options and selected the volume that you want to scan, the application will start analyzing your disk. A new window will appear which will inform you of the process. On this window, you will see how many files have been scanned and how many are left, the elapsed time of the scan, and the estimated time for its completion.

I did my testing by searching for deleted music files on my main hard drive. It is a 500-gigabyte hard drive, and the scan took over 3 hours. After the app was done, it had recovered thousands of files, most of them were small files, but I also found songs that I had deleted in the past.

It is a great thing that Softtote File Recovery for Mac comes with a fully-featured trial version that lets you scan for files. You won't be able to recover any files with it, but at least you know if the application can find the files that you are looking for.
