A disadvantage when I'm using my home computer for work is that my desktop displays icons which aren't required for completing tasks. One solution comes from SaneDesk, a simple program that helps you stay focused on your assignments and organize the icons from your screen by hiding the ones you don't need.
The utility sits on your Menu Bar from where you can easily configure its settings. SaneDesk allows you to create profiles called Workspaces, each for any type of work you need to complete on your Mac. For example, if you wish to work, you can hide personal files like pictures or movies from your desktop and leave only the files you need on your screen. In order to attach documents to a Workspace you need to drag-and-drop them over the profile's name from the main menu of the application.
Once you select the Workspace you want, all icons from your desktop are hidden and only its correspondent files remain on your screen. A good thing is that after you quit the application, all desktop icons are revealed on your monitor.
Another advantage is the fact that you can assign global hotkeys to any of the created profiles.
The one aspect I don't like is that the icons of the plugged in external storage devices cannot be hidden from the desktop.
However, SaneDesk is one of the best of its kind. It provides you with a simple way to customize your desktop, is very simple to handle, and comes with a reasonable price.
