Playlist Export 2.3
Old versionsSee all
Playlist Export is intended for exporting iTunes playlists to other formats so that you can listen to the tracks there on other devices and players. The application is quite straightforward so it is easy to figure out what to do. However, most will depend on your intuition as no help other than the app description is provided.
Its interface is rather Spartan, probably too much for an application with entertainment purposes. When you start the tool, it automatically scans your iTunes library to find existing playlists. However, you should press the Reload Library button whenever you make any changes to the library. An important thing to consider is picking or creating the right export template.
A template defines the export format, which can be M3U, WPL, ZPL and MPL. In this respect, it is important to check if the intended device supports the chosen format. Likewise, you can decide if the actual music files are to be copied or not. Unfortunately, the tool does not offer the option to resample your tracks to make them lighter for a given device. Next step is deciding what path should the resulting files go to. Regarding this, you can keep the default folder or choose any other. Moreover, it is possible to set filters to include or exclude certain types of files, for example, those protected with DRM. Fortunately, there are several pre-built export templates you can download from the developer’s site to save a little time and effort.
All in all, Playlist Export is a simple but useful tool. It may come in handy if you want to quickly export a playlist you can listen to on your car USB radio, for instance. The product is available at the Mac Store at a reasonable price. It is shame that, although there is an opensource version of the tool, it works only on Windows.
