Invisor is a system utility that can inspect multimedia files. It can analyze files and break them down into very useful data for anyone who has to deal with video files.

In the past, I used Invisor to determine what audio codecs were used in certain files because my TV couldn't play DTS files (if the audio files that I analyzed have used that codec, I would have needed to convert them). There are two versions of the app: Invisor and Invisor Lite. The Lite version is fully functional, and there aren't any time limitations. However, you can only open one window and one file at a time, and you can't export data or compare it.

You can load a file by simply dragging it onto the Invisor window. When a file is loaded, you will see its general information, which includes a summary of the audio and video codecs used, the duration of the video, container, and overall bitrate. There is another view, called "Extended", which offers quite a lot more information than the "General" one. When browsing a file in the "Extended" view, information is divided into four categories: container, video, audio and menu. Each of those sections is collapsible, so you can simply close it if you don't need that info.

To sum up, anyone who deals with media files and file conversion tools could benefit from Invisor. The paid version is much more complete, but the "Lite" version works like a charm as well.
