By default, the app shows a consolidated view of your expenses, bills, income and budget for the current month. In addition, there are tabs that take you to more detailed info about specific categories, such as expenses, bills, income, budget, accounts and payees. Besides, there are two more tabs to generate reports and to search for a given expense.
It is excellent that data are shown both graphically and in tabular form. In this respect, the pie charts are useful to knowing how much of your expenses go to each category, which appear in different colors. Luckily, apart from some presets, such as food, entertainment, rent, utilities, insurance, you can create your own categories and subcategories. HomeBudget with Sync can also be used to know your trends. This way, you can know how much you have been earning or spending and make appropriate decisions in this respect. Besides, it is possible to generate reports, which can be saved in PDF or CSV format.
Good news is you can use it to keep track of the budget of the entire family via a feature called Family Sync. It works by running HomeBudget with Sync on different devices and, fortunately, there are versions for most platforms. By creating a group of users, all their devices can synchronize data wirelessly. Regrettably, there have been complaints about this feature failing to sync data as expected.
Finally, the app can keep your data secure by allowing to protect them with a password. Similarly, you may also create backup copies of the database and upload them to Dropbox.
All in all, Homebudget can help you plan your life better by keeping an adequate balance of incomes and expenses. Luckily, there is a Lite version available at no cost; however, it has limits on the number of entries. So, if you find this product useful, you will eventually need to purchase the full version.
