DriveDx is a program for checking the current health status of your local drives. With its help, you can prevent data loss in the event of a hardware malfunction.
The application quickly analyzes the current S.M.A.R.T. status of your drive and provides you with a detailed report. It also gives you access to detailed information regarding each of the investigated aspects. For example, it teaches you what's the meaning of raw read error rate or spin retry count.
You can export the offered information to your local directories. This feature might come in handy if you wish to share the details with a member of a computer service team. The app supports only one output format: TXT. Still, this file format is one of the most popular text formats and is supported by many word processors.
You can also choose between two types of self-tests (Short or Full) which help you identify if your drive is faulty. In my testing, I ran a Short self-test. Even though the app says it might take approximately 2 minutes, the program took a bit longer to offer me the information I needed (more than 10 minutes).
Another thing you need to consider before purchasing this app for your Mac is that it's not recommended for inexperienced users. Even though it doesn't offer you any options which, when altered, could potentially damage your drive, some of the information might seem a bit difficult to comprehend if you're a beginner computer user.
All in all, DriveDx is a feature-rich app that offers you a great deal of information regarding the current status of your drive. I'd say you should first give it a try on your Mac and then decide if it's worth buying it or not.
