CPU Speed Accelerator supposedly can give you processor speed gains. The application is said to be able to allocate more processing power to the application that is currently on the foreground.

It scans your system to detect unused processing power and use it to give you more CPU power for the application that you are using at the moment. I say 'supposedly' because I can't say for sure that this application works or that it doesn't.

In my testing, I activated the app and used a graphics editing app to render a couple of HD shots. I really didn't notice any speed gains. But I don't have any tools to measure time precisely.

The application's graphical user interface consists of a single window. It shows the name of your processor and its speed and below that there is a sliding bar that allows you to set the degree of acceleration and the state of the app. For this application to work, you have to type in your user account password. There are three options that you can check. There is one to start the app automatically, when you start your mouse; one to check for updates at start; and one to reset the preferences when you launch the application.

Pros

  • It could work... or not

Cons

  • I can't say for sure that it works
  • It seems to be outdated, seeing that the screenshot on the website shows a PowerPC CPU
