VPN Server Configurator is an application that lets you configure the built-in VPN server on your Mac.

As you may know, your Mac comes with a VPN server but there are no easy ways to set it up, unless you want to edit configuration files or use the Terminal. The "Server" versions of Mac OS X come with a configuration utility that makes the job very easy. VPN Server Configurator replicates that configuration utility for the standard versions of Mac OS X. There is a demo version that even lets you start the service with a default configuration without paying but there are some limitations.

When you launch the application, it will ask for your user password. When I entered mine, the application would simply crash, so I clicked on "Cancel" and the application launched just fine.

The application lets you set up access to the VPN server using L2TP or PPTP. You can add users and set default DNS servers that every user connected to your Mac via VPN will use.

Setting up the VPN server with this application looks like a piece of cake. The graphical user interface is well-designed and it is very clear.

The limitations that I mentioned above are that you can't add users to the service with the demo version and that your passwords will be limited to one character.

  • Easy to use
