VPN Watcher is intended to prevent data leaks when you are connected to a VPN. It may happen that a VPN connection drops while you are transferring some kind of data, which leaves your IP exposed. VPN Watcher can detect such an event and stop any traffic originated from a third-party application. Some VPN clients come with kill switches that do a similar thing, but even in such circumstances, VPN Watcher can still add an extra protection layer.

The application is quite easy to use. All you need to do is choose the VPN you want to monitor and create a list of the applications whose traffic you need to protect. To make things easier, the tool comes with presets for HMA, ibVPN, PureVPN and HideMyAss. Then, it continuously checks your VPN connection status at a given frequency. If anything goes wrong, it immediately shut the active application. Luckily, it can also restore the traffic as soon as the connection is up again.

VPN Watcher is compatible with various protocols, but, regrettably its macOS version does not support OpenVPN. As to encryption algorithms, it uses the powerful AES-256. It is also good that the service providers promise a great deal of personal data protection.

All in all, VPN Watcher can make your VPN connections even securer. Let us be clear about this, the product is not a VPN client and does not offer such service. Still, it may come in quite handy as a complement to VPN clients that do not come with a killswitch feature. In this respect, it is probably the only application of its type supported by macOS. Although there is a free license, it is extremely limited. For instance, you can only add an application. If you want to unblock other features, you need to purchase the Personal or Gold licenses.
