Voice Memo is an interest concept for an application.

Voice Memo is an interest concept for an application. It allows you to record voice memos that you can use as alarms for future events.

The developers thought that hearing yourself telling you what to do or remember conveys a stronger message than reading an alarm note on iCal or a scheduled e-mail. They might be right.

So, when you want to create a new voice memo, all you have to do is click on the "Record" button and say what you want to say. After you are done, click on "Stop" and a new window will pop-up. Here, you can assign a title to the voice memo and set an alarm, if you want to. If you do set an alarm, you will have to specify what day and at what time you want the alarm to go off. You can create as many alarms as you want.

In the little Settings pane that you can access from the application's main window, you can choose whether you want to start Voice Memo when your Mac starts, and if you want to play memos automatically when you they are due.

As I said above, this is a nice concept for an application. Unfortunately, Voice Memo is not an application that I, or many other users like me, would ever use. There is no way to hide the application window. If you close it, the app quits. If the app isn't running, you won't be told when there is an alarm due. The app doesn't have a daemon that can launch it when there is an alarm due.

Pros

  • Interest concept
  • It works well when the app is running

Cons

  • You can't close the window without quitting the app
  • It has to be running for alarms to go off
