Typing Fingers is intended for teaching typing skills. The application is suitable for any age group; however, it seems to be specially intended for children. In this respect, it includes several games with the clear objective of engaging them into learning. Moreover, its developers claim the tool is based on sound teaching approaches, such as the “ten-finger” approach and the “symmetric learning”.
The application allows creating various user profiles and keep their progress separately. This way, it can be used by every family member or multiple students on the same machine. Luckily, there are various themes corresponding to different cultures, which include not only the artwork but also the animations.
It is good that there is a virtual tutor, called Dennis, who takes through all the stages of your learning process, starting with good sitting postures and putting your fingers in the right position. The tool comes with 32 levels that gradually teach how to type new letters, numbers and symbols. Lessons, in turn, are composed of two parts; the first is purely instructive while the second is a game. Unfortunately, there is not a variety of games, since all of them are based on shooting falling items by pressing the correct letter on the keyboard before they reach the ground. You are given three “lives” and, it is a shame that there is no practice mode. When you have completed all the levels, you get a diploma as a token of your achievements. more
