TransData is intended for controlling and supervising your network connection. Thus, it comes in particularly handy if you need to know how much Internet data is being consumed for a given task or over a certain connection type.

The application can run from the Menu Bar, from where you can access such data as total data usage as well as upload and download data rates. Besides, you can view additional data if you drop down the menu available from the application’s icon there. Moreover, it is great that you can also consult your connection’s behavior over time.

You can configure how the data appears in the reports. For instance, it is possible to display either in Kbps or Mbps. Likewise, you can switch between total internet data used, upload speed, download speed and active speed. Finally, the data refresh rate can be adjusted to your preferences.

The application supports monitoring various types of connections, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth. Regrettably, it does not seem to measure data consumption or rate over Thunderbolt and FireWire connections.

In short, TransData can help you save money by controlling data usage over a particular connection. The application is light and unobtrusive. While it provides useful information, it does not interfere with your normal workflow. The product is available from the Mac App Store, but it is a pity there is no trial version.
