Softmatic PhotoBatch is a free utility that helps you rename and resize images easily. The program’s greatest asset refers to its ability to perform the already mentioned tasks on multiple files at once. The tool supports a wide range of formats as source files, including RAW, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, CR2, and NEF.
The interface is well-structured, with all its main features right there at hand. The photos that you intend to process can be added using the drag-and-drop feature, a method which is often the easiest of all. Yet, I wonder if it wouldn't be more convenient to browse for a specific folder and import its entire content, mainly when dealing with multiple files. Anyway, this is just a matter of personal preference. Once the image files have been added into the list panel, you can take a closer look and see if you have selected the right photos. The generous preview will help you in this respect. If necessary, you can remove some of the pictures – or all of them – at once.
As an image resizer, the program lets you modify the photos' quality and scale them at a rate of your choice. When it comes to bulk-renaming files, you have the ability to append text or counters to the existing file names, or rename them differently. A good thing is that the settings you just configured can be saved as presets for other projects. Finally, the results can be saved as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or BMP format files.
The processing speed is neither fast nor slow. Actually, it varies according to the number of files selected, the complexity of the settings, and the computer system’s performance. The program works fine, but unfortunately it doesn't let you pause and resume a running task. Moreover, there's no progress bar to inform you about the level of completion.
