Smart Converter is a free video converter for the Mac. It allows you to convert some video files so that you can play them on the AppleTV, iPad, iPhones and iPods, Android tablets, Android phones and other devices like Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation portable, etc.
Smart Converter has a very nice user interface, which is simple and intuitive. You can drag the file that you want to convert onto it, and then select the target device from the icons on the bottom part of the screen. Apparently, you can only convert one file at a time. There is an indicator that reads "Conversion Speed". This tells you what part of your files will be converted (audio, video, both, or none).
In my testing, I tried to convert both an MKV file and a DivX file. The MKV file was loaded just fine, but it wasn't converted. I didn't get an error, though. It simply said the conversion was done, but I didn't get any files. The DivX file worked perfectly.
All in all, this is a free video converter with limited format support. It has a nice interface and I like the fact that it lets you easily select your target device. But I don't like that it can only process one file at a time and that it doesn't support most popular formats.
Pros
- Nice interface
Cons
- Not so good format support
- Not smart enough to tell when it can convert a file
