Road Trip Effect is a utility that lets you create movies with animations that show the routes that you took in any given trip. It is really a very basic application. All you need to do is set the start and end locations of your trip by clicking and dragging. When you do this, a trail will be added. Hit the "Play" button and an you will be able to preview the animation.
By default, Road Trip Effect uses an icon that resembles an airplane, but you can change this to cars, vans, boats and even trains. The DMG image this application comes in also has a folder with satellite maps. By default, the North America map is used, but there are many more available.
There are other settings that you can change. For example, you can assign a color and a width to each one of your "Trails", to help you differentiate them. The Fade length and opacity can also be modified.
Once you are done plotting your trip, you can export the movie in three different formats. One of them is uncompressed, which comes in handy if you want to use the movie in iMovie or another video editing app.
Road Trip Effect is a nice way of sharing your trips with friends and family. And it is nice to relieve your trips by seeing exactly how you travelled from A to B. I like the fact that you can load your own images to use as backgrounds.

- You can't really be precise with this app, especially if you want to show the roads you took on a trip
- No city names
