Monotony is a very simple feed reader. It does exactly one job: You subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds, Monotony checks for news every minute. News are displayed on the desktop as notifications, featuring the headline and a summary (if there’s one). To read a news item in your default web browser, just click on the notification.
There is nothing else. No Google Reader sync, no frontend, no possibility to customize it. Monotony runs as a menubar app or, if you choose, invisible in the background. That’s all. Monotony has been designed to blend with Growl, the desktop notification system, and with Mountain Lion’s Notification Center.

Unfortunately, with Monterey, my fans would go to maximum speed, very loud and noisy, when I was streaming video on any browser.
It took a long time to figure out what was causing this. I tried getting rid of Google Chrome and Keystone running application updates, didn't help. In Activity Monitor,
Window Server and Kernel Task were always using too much CPU. I tried starting up in Safe Boot, the problem persisted.
I created a new user and started up in the new user. Fans were quiet. They would increase a bit with streaming but didn't go to MAX. I used an app called TG Pro to look at the sensors and their temperatures and the fan speeds.
Getting rid of Monotony solved the problem entirely. The fans no longer go to 6,400 RPM, hovering around 3,400 RPM, which is not noticeable noise wise.
Sorry to have to say goodbye to Monotony, as it worked perfectly until Monterey, but it is free and no longer being supported by the developer, so it had to go for my sanity. Plus, fewer and fewer websites are supporting RSS.
