iScavenge is an app that lets you explore your iOS backups. As you may know, when you sync your iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad) with your Mac via iTunes, there is an option that allows you to create a backup. iScavenge lets you access those backup files and explore what is inside them. Think of it as one of those iOS transfer apps, but you don't need to have the device connected to use it.
The first time that you run iScavenge, it will display all the devices that have backups on your Mac. These are all the devices that you have synced with your Mac and have the backup feature enabled. After selecting a device, you will see a summary of the device, along with its name, software version, serial number and even phone number. You can see your Contacts, Notes, Messages, Photos and Files. And the best thing of all is that you can export all of it to your Mac.
This is a free app and it works like a charm. I was able to explore my iPad and iPhone backups with it. The only bad thing that I can find about it is that it doesn't have a viewer that you can use to view photos or play videos. You see photo snapshots, but that is all.
It helps you recover contacts and text messages from Android phones.
Recover iPhone bookmarks, calendar, contacts, SMS & MMS, photos, and videos from iTunes backups.
