Grain by Grain is a particle-based game in which you can create sand drawings. I've always been amazed by the quality of these works of art inside little bottles; and now, with this game, I can try to emulate the artists on my Mac. In the first window that is opened when you launch the game, you can choose from nine different backgrounds and containers. Each one is different and they all have background sounds that match the background image. After you have selected the theme that you want to use, you can start "drawing". You can click anywhere inside the container to drop colored sand. If you click and hold, the process goes faster. There is a color selection menu at the bottom that gives you access to the four most-used colors, but if you click on the "plus" sign, you'll find a total of 25 colors. Combining colors and shapes lets you create great-looking sand drawings.
There are five buttons at the top of the screen, which let you go back to the main menu, change the speed at which the sand falls when you click on the screen, and even take an in-game screenshot to your specified pictures folder or anywhere on your Mac. The button that looks like a star will do different things in each of the game's themes. Some times it puts a nice drawing on the screen that you can use as a base for your creations; other times it just fills the container with a solid color of sand. more
