Fission 1.6

Fission is a lightweight and very complete audio editor. It can open quite a few different file formats, but the interesting thing is that it can edit MP3, WAV, AIFF, and AAC without losing quality.

I am not entirely sure how this is done, though. Speaking of quality, as a trial limitation, Fission will intentionally degrade the quality of your files until you have registered the application. It is $32, but it offers a lot of functionality.

Perhaps, what I find more appealing about this audio editor is that it is intuitive. When you load a music file on it, you are shown the timeline view, which shows a graphical representation of the audio's volume. You can make selections by simply dragging with your mouse, and you can zoom in and zoom out to see more details. By clicking anywhere on the timeline, you are telling the player to start playing from there. So, two basic operations like trimming an audio file, or making a shorter clip out of a larger one, become very easy. This app can also be used to create ringtones, among other things.

Fission is very, very light. It is responsive to user input and it has great help and support.
