Having to manually manage running processes may be a little tiresome and quite impossible at times when you simply leave the desk only to return and find out that your battery has run out or is increasingly heating.
App Tamer provides an automatic solution for handling CPU intensive tasks by stopping them. It does this in an elegant manner by either dimming or hiding their windows. The application centers around its "drawer" window where all running processes are displayed, complete with details regarding their running status, name, current and average CPU usage as well as priority. Users may either Activate, AutoStop, Reveal in Finder, Force Quit, or Quit. Also, a selected process may be subjected to a choice of priority ranging from Low to High and set to AutoStop (automatically pause when not in front).
A Gaming Mode can AutoStop all windowed application except the active one.
When use in compact layout mode, App Tamer will show the stopped applications, a percentage of their savings and a visual display of the total CPU usage.
Program preferences may be set to have App Tamer automatically start at login, AutoStop apps only when the battery is running low, have the utility show in the menubar complete with CPU usage and interval of time until it will effectively stop or launch an app.
