AirFoto Server 1.2

AirFoto Server is the server-side component of the AirFoto iOS application. The server can be installed on your Mac or Windows computer, and the AirFoto app has a version for the iPhone and the iPad.

Both apps combine to make it easy for you to stream the photos stored on your Mac to your iOS device so that you can watch them without syncing via iTunes. This is a very nice utility, especially for those people who want to be able to browse images on the iPad but don't have the necessary storage space on the device. The beautiful screen of the iPad and the touch gestures make it an ideal device for photo viewing, but the 16 gigabyte versions can run out of space rather quickly.

Once you install the server on your Mac, you can add folders that you want to share with the client app. In my case, I added the Pictures folder on my Mac, and when I launched AirFoto Lite on my iPhone, the iOS app detected that I was running the server and let me start browsing my photos instantly. Browsing was smooth enough for me. Some high-resolution photos took almost a second to render fully, which is acceptable. From the iOS app, you can share your images on Twitter, Facebook, add them to an album or e-mail them.

In conclusion, AirFoto Server and AirFoto for iOS make up a great photo streaming service. The set-up is really simple and my experience with both the Mac and iOS apps was great.
