Aerate is intended to compress images without any quality loss. In this regard, the tool supports shrinking PNG and JPG pictures as well as converting photoshop files (PSD) to JPG. The application certainly could not be any easier to use. It has a minimalistic interface that supports drag-and-drop operations. It is excellent news that it can process images in batches by importing groups of files or entire folders. In addition, there is a simple slider that allows toggling between three different aeration modes. Even though the default mode works quite well, you may want to consider using the Fast and Extreme presets instead.
Aerate works quite fast and produces excellent results without noticeably affecting quality. In this respect, it not only applies sound shrinking algorithms but also removes superfluous metadata. As a converter, the application can combine various procedures for better results. For instance, you can convert PNG to JPG while also compressing the files. In all cases, once the process is finished, it is possible to preview the resulting files. Moreover, it is good to know that the tool is non-destructive as it does not modify the source files. So, there is nothing to lose in case something goes wrong.
All in all, Aerate is an excellent choice if you need to make images lighter. This procedure produces files that are faster to share or to load as part of webpages. The standard version is free to use and downloadable from both the Mac App Store and the developer’s site. However, it is not as fast as the Pro version. So, if you are interested in benefiting from the tool’s capacity to use multi-core mode, you should upgrade it via in-app purchases.
