Packages, which are distributed with the PKG extension, are commonly used to deploy applications on macOS. Although dragging the desired app’s icon to Trash is sometimes enough to uninstall it, there could be leftovers, mostly when it was originally installed via a PKG file. UninstallPKG lets you remove packages and any associated contents in a clean and effortless manner.
The application has a neat tabbed interface. Most of the time, you only need to browse the tabs and select the PKGs you wish to uninstall. It scans your drive to find any such files and generates a list. The first tab, called All Packages, shows all of the results. Likewise, you can filter them using the next two tabs into App and Defunct packages. It is also possible to search for a specific package by its name.
Good news is that, when you choose one of the entries, you can get a list of all the related files. This way, you can inspect them manually to avoid any important data being erased. In this respect, it is also allowed to create a sort of white list of packages you want to protect from accidental deletion.
All in all, UninstallPKG is much better than Trash to remove those apps you no longer want. However, compared with other similar tools, it is less versatile as it supports removing PKGs only. The product is shareware and can be tried with up to 5 uninstallations. Luckily, it has a reasonable price.
