Tipard AVI Converter Suite for Mac is a software pack that contains two utilities that are great for those who want to convert content to the AVI format. The names of the applications included are AVI Converter for Mac and DVD to AVI Converter for Mac. One lets you convert video files between a variety of formats, and the other lets you rip your DVD movies into AVI so that you can watch them on your Mac, or other devices that support the format.
When you run the application, you will see a launcher, which lets you access both applications. You can only run one of them at a time and in a separate window.
As far as format support goes, both applications let you convert files into DivX, XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, H.264, WMV, WebM and AVI. There are also conversion profiles for devices like the Zune, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3 and many mobile playback devices. HD profiles are also available.
Both apps feature a video editor that lets you trim and crop your videos, adjust their brightness, contrast and saturation and even add watermarks to them.
During my testing, I converted an MKV file into an HD AVI file. The process lasted about a minute and a half for a 30-second clip, which isn't really fast. The resulting file looked good and played well on MPlayerX.
