Sophos Home is an antivirus solution intended for home users. The application has an easy-to-use interface for the end user. In this respect, it sits unobtrusively in the Menu Bar, from where you can initiate a scan and get the results. Moreover, there is a web interface that lets you configure some security options and change settings. The idea behind this central web management is that you do not need to configure each of the supported devices separately.
The product is available in two licenses: Free and Premium. The free service can protect you from basic threats, like viruses and ill-intentioned URLs. However, you would need to buy the Premium license if you want protection against phishing. Likewise, the paid product offers real-time prevention against threats, protection against ransomware and some privacy tools (anti-logger and webcam protection).
AV scans can be performed on-demand but they may be also scheduled for a particular time, mostly when you are not using the computer. In this respect, you may save some time by excluding certain items from the scan.
There is not much data about Sophos Home efficacy in detecting malware attacks. As far as I could find, it shows decent results. Still, it is not included in any of the list of top best AV protection. In this respect, it does not seem to be very effective in filtering contents.
All in all, Shophos Home offers decent antimalware defense for your system. Regrettably, it does not provide as many features as other similar tools (VPN, for instance). It lets you protect various devices with a single account. In this regard, central management is convenient to control various devices, maybe those belonging to other members of your family who are not skilled enough.a
