Sloth is a nice Mac application that will help you determine what files are employed by all the programs your system runs.

It's very easy to make use of this piece of software. All you should do is to launch it and click on the "Refresh" button. Once you have done that, you will be provided with a list containing every single file currently used by all of your running applications.

But that's not all that the Sloth can help you do. Besides displaying the list of used files, this program also lets you view the names and IDs of the processes, their types (files or directories) and full paths. Furthermore, you can select to view the IP and Unix sockets as well as the character devices with just a click of a mouse.

In order to help you find the desired process or files much faster than manually scanning the list, Sloth puts a search function at your disposal which you can use to find the desired entries in a matter of seconds and, if you decide that a specific process needs to be stopped, you can easily kill it. You can even view the file (or files) in use by a specific application in the Finder with little effort.

This small Mac application comes as a simple and intuitive tool and the only thing you can modify is sending the SIGKILL signal instead of SIGTERM when killing a process.

In conclusion, if you are in need of an easy-to-use piece of software that will help you view all the files that are currently used by all of your running application and quickly terminate any desired process then you should give Sloth a try.
