Prevent your applications from connecting to the Internet.

There might come a time when you will need to prevent some of your Mac applications from making network connections.

For example, you might do that for checking if one of your programs works well while it's not connected to the Internet. One solution comes from Radio Silence, a Mac utility that helps you block your apps from making a network connection.

The program brings you an intuitive interface that's divided into 2 screens: Firewall and Network Monitor. In the first screen you can add the applications you don't want to stay connected to the Internet. The other window shows you which of your Mac utilities are currently making network connections.

The Firewall protection for the selected apps can always be enabled and disabled directly from the program's interface (the slider from the bottom side of the main screen).

In my testing, I configured Radio Silence to prevent Safari from connecting to the Internet. It took a while for the program to analyze my Applications folder and reveal the installed Mac tools. Once I selected the Safari app from the list and enabled the Firewall protection, Radio Silence immediately blocked the Internet access for the chosen web browser.

Briefly, Radio Silence is a helpful and simple to handle utility that helps you immediately restrict Internet access for your Mac programs. In addition, it comes with a very reasonable price. Hence, I'd say it's definitely worth a try.

Pros

  • Immediately applies the needed changes
  • Monitors the apps that make network connections
  • Uses a very small amount of CPU resources

Cons

  • It might take a while to scan your Applications folder

Paid for the app, was never sent the license. When purchasing there's a message stating it would be sent via email. I checked spam, but it never came in. No response to the email on the website. Don't waste your money.

I'm using this app for a long time, but I'm annoyed with the fact I can't hide the app & have it in the menu bar. Can the developers add this functionality?
