This seems to be a bug in the application's code. The easiest way to fix it is close the application and then start the entire project again. If you can, save the project to the proprietary file. You can load its backup after the program restart.
When I download a collage to my desktop, a part of the photos goes missing. My last trial downloaded three pictures out of twelve - also the picture panel will not stay open. I must click "Pictures" each time I drag and drop. It is quite disappointing since one can so easily create lovely or fun groups. I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8.Thank you for any advice.

You are trying to use an old and unsupported version. This means that bugs may appear and they will never be fixed. However, there is a new version called Picture Collage Maker 3 that can be obtained from its official website. It's also available for Mac system.
