An application for taking screenshots and recording videos on your Mac.

Monosnap is a Mac program that enables you to take snapshots and record videos on your computer. The application sits on your Menu Bar, has easy-to-configure settings, and allows you to define global hotkeys for immediately taking screenshots and controlling the built-in video recorder.

This utility also provides you with various image editing options. It allows you to add geometrical shapes (such as arrows) to your screenshots, include text content if needed, and crop the taken snapshots.

Sadly, the program comes with many flaws. For starters, its built-in video recording tool doesn't work. Monosnap crashes every time I try to start a video recording or access the tool's Settings panel. Furthermore, Monosnap supports a limited amount of output formats, for both snapshots and video recordings. You can export your results only to the following formats: JPEG, PNG, MPEG or GIF.

Another annoying aspect is the fact that the application isn't completely free. You need to make an in-app purchase in order to unlock the ability to back up the snapshots and video recordings to your Evernote, Dropbox or Yandex accounts.

In my opinion, you can find better Mac utilities for capturing screen activity. This program comes with a large amount of disadvantages and doesn't work 100%.

I was surprised, how many tools this software provides. I used Jing earlier, now I prefer Monosnap. Sadly, it is not totally free, but it is definitely worth purchase.

I was surprised with the possibilities of this free tool. I do not use cloud services, so their paid availability didn't spoil my impression from the app. But this point can surely be a noticeable disadvantage. Still, taking into account that the rest of the program is free, I would not complain on that.
