Mate Translate can help you increase your productivity if you need to perform frequent translations. The application is actually a client that uses online translation services to do its job. It is excellent that the tool runs unobtrusively from the menu bar and allows various ways to perform a translation.
Good news is that the application supports translating 103 languages. To translate a text, you can click on its icon and simply type the text to translate and let the tool detect the source language automatically; yet, it also lets you pick it manually. Likewise, you can use a hotkey combination to automatically translate the contents of the clipboard. Regrettably, I could not find a way to translate a complete document and keep its original formatting.
Luckily, you can get not only the target translation but also additional information. For instance, it allows you to listen to the source and target texts, and along with that, it provides the phonetic transcription using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). What is more, you can use the tool to access a transliteration of the text in the case of non-Latin alphabets.
As said, Mate Translate relies on an online service for its translations, which has the disadvantage that it requires a working connection. However, it still can be useful when you are offline. In this regard, the tool keeps logs of your translations, which allows accessing some of the previously downloaded contents. Likewise, it lets you create a phrase book, which is also available at all times. What is more, you can synchronize those contents between various devices by creating a Mate Translate account for yourself.
All in all, Mate Translate provides a convenient way to translate texts in a large number of languages with reasonable accuracy. The product is available for various operating systems and also as an extension for various Internet browsers. Since it is shareware, it can be tried at no cost for a few days.
