MacX Free MKV Video Converter 2.5

MacX Free MKV Video Converter is a free video converter for the Mac. It allows you to convert MKV and many other video formats into MOV, MP4, AVI, FLV, MPEG-4, and H.264 files.

As you may have noticed from that introductory line, there is no reason why this app would need to be called an "MKV" converter. In other words, it does support the format, but it is by no means a special app for the conversion of that format. In fact, it doesn't even have a single feature that a real MKV converter would have, like support for multiple audio or subtitle tracks, GPU acceleration, etc.

Graphically, the app looks like all the other MacX and Winx (if you have ever used one of their converters on Windows) converters. There is some on-screen help at the top, and the conversion settings at the bottom. You select the format by clicking on one of the buttons in the middle of the screen, and then you can change some of the settings, like audio quality and sample rate, volume, video quality, format and codec, etc.

The converter does work well. I tested it with MKV files and they were converted to H.264 with no problems, with little quality loss.
