iCoolsoft Video Converter for Mac is a multi-format video converter. The app supports a lot of formats for input, and it can convert those into pretty much every popular video and audio format out there.

If you select an audio format for output, your video will be discarded and the audio track will be saved to an audio file that you can then play on devices that support your selected format.

The application looks very similar to iCoolsoft Video Converter for Windows, which isn't entirely a bad thing. I always expect developers to modify their graphical user interfaces when they release a product for the Mac. Still, the current GUI proves to be responsive and functional.

You will see there is a very long list of supported formats at the bottom of the screen. There are almost a hundred different conversion profiles, including some for playback devices such as iOS devices, phones, and video game consoles. If you use an MKV file as input, you can choose what audio and subtitle tracks you want to save.

In my testing, I converted a sample AVI file into HD MOV, and the whole process took a little over 15 seconds, for a 30 second clip. This is not blazing fast, but it is on par with other tools out there. The converted file played well, and it looked and sounded as good as the original.
