iChess 3D is a nicely designed board game that allows you to practice your chess skills on your Mac. The game comes with three difficulty levels so that any player, amateur or professional, can enjoy a brain-teaser chess game from the comfort of their home.
As its name says, the game is rendered in 3D, but if you like things simple, you can always enable the 2D view option. I, however, prefer the 3D mode for its rotating table effect; this way, you can move the chess table in any angle you like and get a better glimpse to the moves that are made.
Unfortunately, iChess 3D's most difficult game mode isn't as challenging as you would expect it to be. Even on the homepage of the developer it is stated that the game's algorithm might not be a challenge to experienced users. Another thing I don't like about this program is that you can save the progress only for the current game.
As for the rest, I find iChess 3D to be a nice and relaxing solution when it comes to playing a chess game on your Mac. And since you don't have to pay a buck to use it, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't give it a try.
