GUI Tar is a program that comes as an alternative to using Mac's Archive Utility for managing compressed files.
To create an archive file you first need to import the data you wish to compress. Then, you can choose the preferred output format and destination folder, and the tool will take care of the rest.
To use the built-in Extractor, simply drag-and-drop the archive you wish to decompress, choose a destination folder for its contents, and that's it. The program will immediately extract the necessary data, without slowing down the performance of your system. Sadly, the utility doesn't give you the ability to take a peek into the imported archive and select only certain files for the decompression process. This feature is available in various archive managers, but not many of them come without a price.
In conclusion, GUI Tar is an efficient and simple to handle archive manager, its only weaknesses being the aforementioned flaw and the fact that it doesn't offer you the ability to encrypt the generated archives. So, it's up to you to decide, based on your needs, if GUI Tar is the right tool for you.
