Drop to GIF is a tiny, extremely easy-to-use application intended to convert video files to GIF. The idea behind this tool is to create animations that can be readily inserted into webpages, which guarantees compatibility with multiple web browsers.
The application has a minimalistic interface, which is just a square window onto which you can drop the desired source video. In this regard, it is not required to pick a target folder, as the GIF is always saved in the original location. What is more, you do not even need to open the tool, since dragging and dropping a movie file onto its dock icon also works. And even more, you can set a watch folder, which means that any file copied to that folder is automatically converted to GIF.
Fortunately, there are a few options you can use to configure output quality and size. For instance, you can keep the original movie’s frames-per-second frequency or set any other. Similarly, it is possible to change the target resolution from 100 px to 1500 px. Besides, depending on your intentions, you can adjust the output quality. In this respect, you need to be aware that using the best quality option may produce GIFs that could be even heavier than the original movie files, whereas tiny files may contain highly distorted images.
While it is good that the application lets you preview the video file, the feedback provided as to the progress and results of the conversion is too poor. Probably because of this, you might find yourself waiting for an end-of-conversion notice, which could also open the destination folder. more
