Clone X 4 is intended to create bootable backup of your system. Likewise, it allows restoring the whole system or specific files and directories. Similarly, the tool can come in handy when you need to create a copy of your startup partition. Luckily, there is a detailed user guide to answer possible questions.

The application has a straightforward interface. Each time you run it, you are welcomed with an initial menu that lists the main operations: duplicate data of a volume to another, create a minimal system for maintenance and compare all items of two volumes. Luckily, when you create your copies, you can decide whether you want to include user documents and settings. Similarly, it is also possible restore the system without user data.

Clone X 4 has the main advantage of preserving your system´s file and folder structure by avoiding any kind of problem resulting for denied permissions. Likewise, it is able to preserve file´s properties, such as ownership and permissions.

All in all, Clone X 4 is an excellent tool if you want to keep your system free from various types of data loss. Similarly, it can be used for maintenance purposes. Fortunately, there is a trial version that allows testing some of the features only, which is why some options like creating a minimal system are not available. Regrettably, this product has not been updated to make it compatible with recent macOS versions.
