Cleaner-The Duplicate File is an easy-to-use application that scans your computer in search of duplicate files. The program reads the files' extensions and offers to sort the results by file type, so that you can have an overview on what takes most of your valuable disk space.

The utility opens with a simple and intuitive interface. However, the colors on the main window aren't the best choice – namely, the white-colored text on the flashy green background makes your eyes tired when trying to read the notes. Yet, using the application requires you to take but a few easy steps. This way, you need to browse your computer in order to select hard drives or specific folders for the program to scan. To narrow the search for duplicates, you can determine the minimum file size the tool should take into account. Once the scan is over, the utility displays the results on the left side of the window, and provides you with information that refers to the name and the number of those similar items it has identified.

What is great about this program is the ability to filter the results by file type, such as pictures, music files, movies, archives, and other uncategorized types of files. You can browse through the results list and perform a selective choice of duplicates. Unfortunately, the free version of the app won’t let you clean the duplicates automatically. This option is available only after purchasing the full edition of the program. However, you can still delete the duplicates manually, as the tool lets you explore the source folder of your duplicates and remove the files from there.

In short, this application offers a simple solution to identify duplicate files on your Mac. The ability to sort the results by file type is the program's major asset.
