CB RadioBox is an application that emulates a Citizens Band radio. It was designed to imitate the look and feel of these radios, but on your Mac.

The idea is that you can connect to the application and talk with people without knowing who they are. When you launch the application you will see a graphical user interface that somewhat reflects the look of a CB radio. At the top is an intensity meter, and next to it an LCD panel with the channel you are currently on, the name of the channel and the total number of users online. Below that you will find controls that let you switch the channel and access the scan feature. If you want to chat with someone in private, you can do so by password-protecting a session.

In my testing, I wasn't able to hear anyone for a while. Only 5 users were available at the time. After 5 or so minutes, I got a message from a nice man in Colorado. I didn't understand the entirety of the message at first, but thankfully the last message received will be played back again if you click on the "Replay" button.

In conclusion, CB Radio Box can be appealing for anyone who has an interest in radios. It seems to work just fine, but it is lacking a user base at the moment.

I was unable to talk to anyone during my time with the application, but you might be able to, so if you are interested, give it a shot.
